About the role

We provide expertise to enable national programmes and health and social care organisations to develop effective systems, information, and technology. Our work contributes to safer treatment and better care within health and social care services in England.

This role will be part of Solution Assurance, contributing to data assurance activities across NHS Digital portfolios with emphasis on data processing, focusing on breaking down technical specification documents and in-depth data analysis to identify data testing requirements and associated data risks.  This will involve contributing to a wide range of activities such as following test plans, creating test scripts, curating complex test data and performing data analysis on test results, to support test and assurance activities related to data processing systems. Where relevant, risk and maturity assessments to direct data assurance activities may also feature.

Following an extensive induction providing the opportunity to experience diverse areas of technical assurance, the postholder will provide test and assurance consultancy support working as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) with a range of delivery partners and suppliers.

As a Technical Assurance Specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Using your specialist knowledge of data process testing including data interface specifications, data management tools and anonymisation techniques in a large scale, multiple component delivery context;
  • Using your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of technical risk management including data processing impacts to mitigate impacts
  • Using your knowledge of key concepts of agile development – (the agile lifecycle, the mechanics of scrums and sprints), to support the principles of continuous integration.
  • Using your knowledge of quality maturity models such as TMMI and quality standards such as the ISO9000 series to improve test capabilities.
  • Use structured test data and enable test environment provision to improve and aid functional and integration testing.

About you

This role may appeal to anyone with experience in the test and assurance domain, including those working in technical roles in health informatics who would like a new challenge in test and assurance.  

Some of the key skills and experience you'll bring:  

  • Knowledge of heath care informatics systems and related technologies,:
  • An understanding of manual and automated testing and their advantages to the functional and integration testing of current or future technologies (such as machine learning and AI).
  • Proven ability to apply structured test and assurance techniques and processes for complex IT systems and solutions.
  • Ability to clearly articulate a technical architecture and to recognise the risks associated with that solution.

  • Experience of automated and exploratory test case design techniques and tools in an agile development environment.

  • Qualified to Post-Graduate Diploma/Degree level, or equivalent higher education qualification or equivalent experience.

  • ISEB/ISTQB Software Testing Foundation Certificate (Certified or Agile Tester) or equivalent recognised qualification or level of experience
